Santuario di paola.Breakfast at the Hotel Paradiso
This enchanting place rises from this rich agricultural land which is set at the foot of a mountain facing the Tyrrhenian Sea. Along the way to the spiritual centre you can admire the painted ceramic tiles that depict the miracles performed by St Francis over the years. The interior of the chapel inside of the sanctuary was used as a guest house for people who visited the centre and was given the name, “Chapel of Relics.” The reason the chapel was given this name is because it conserves many personal items belonging to St. Francis. Outside of the sanctuary you will find a path called, “Via dei Miracoli” (The Path of Miracles) During World War II a bomb was dropped into the Isca River the runs through the sanctuary and miraculously didn’t explode. The bomb is now exhibited at the center for visitors to see.  At early age of 14, St. Francis went into solitude for 5 years inside of a cave.  Shortly after his time in solitude St. Francis engaged into a fierce battle with the devil who wanted to take his soul.
Lunch will be served at a local restaurant. Return to the Hotel Paradiso.

Day 3: Pizzo and Paravati (Mileto)

Chiesetta di piedigrotta.Breakfast at the Hotel Paradiso.
Church of Piedigrotta
The unique Church of Piedigrotta is built inside of a small cave located directly on the beach.  The church was built by sailors who safely landed on the shores of Pizzo, after surviving their voyage in torrent seas. The sailors prayed to the Madonna to save them and vowed that they would build a church in her name, if they reached land safely.  Inside the church are mythological statues made of tuff that date back to the 17th Century. The church of Piedigrotta is one of the most visited attractions in all of Calabria. There is staircase that requires a medium level of effort in order to reach the church, however, the reward of viewing the contents of this remarkable place far exceeds the effort.
Lunch in Pizzo Town Square
Off to Paravati to the grave of Natuzza Evolo
Fortunata Evolo known as Natuzza, was a very spiritual woman who spent her life in devotion to Jesus Christ. Although the catholic church has not made any pronouncements concerning her sanctity or alleged mystical phenomenon that occurred during her lifetime she was supported by local bishops and at the time of her death on November 1/ 2009 (All Saints Day) there were 6 Italian Bishops and more than 100 priest that concelebrated her funeral.   Natuzza was known in the area as Stigmata, this has been documented in the book entitled, “A Report on the case investigation of “Natuzza Evolo” by Micheal J. Nanko.  Thousands of pilgrims come from all over Europe to pay their respects, and the beatification is expected to be started very soon.
For dinner you will enjoy  a wood oven baked pizza and salad of choice at our restaurant.

Placanica.Breakfast at the Hotel Paradiso
In the diocese of Santa Domenica a suburb of Placanica (RC), devote people come here to pray to this Blessed Virgin. This detailed designed church which is totally made of stone. On May the 11th 1968 our Blessed Lady of the Rock is said to have appeared to Cosimo Fragomeni . The Madonna appearance is one of many noted throughout the years.   At the time of the appearance Cosimo was a young boy who took care of sheep in the area. He said that the Madonna had a sad face, she was tearless and without shoes.  The Madonna’s hands were locked together in prayer and she was wearing a white dress. Father Fragomeni said that he saw a white light behind the Madonna and her luminous appearance made her look more like a spirit than an actual human being.
